Humanities 2020: A Week Of Virtual Celebrations

Philippine Science High School – Western Visayas Campus (PSHS-WVC) conducted its annual Humanities Week Celebration virtually, last November 10 – 28, 2020, with the theme, “Pag-ulikid sa Panahon sang Pandemya”.

PSHS-WVC virtually announced the mechanics and guidelines for the GAD Logo and Poster-Making Contest. 

Then, the school launched Kapyot, an outreach activity for the senior citizens and persons with disabilities, which lasted from November 11, 2020 to November 13, 2020, at the PSHS-WVC Grounds. 

Moreover, the school conducted a convocation via Facebook Live on November 16, 2020, at 8:30 AM for the Humanities Week Celebration 2020.

“This COVID-19 pandemic is undeniably posing a lot of challenges to us all and has put our humanity to the test. It is easy for us to be selfish, think of our cares and comfort, and just put aside our hearts and concern for others. It is just a fitting time though, to take this as an opportunity to truly reflect on our humanity,” Dr. Ganela, the PSHS-WVC Campus Director said during her opening remarks.

“True to our mission as an institution, we offer an education that is humanistic in spirit and we best express that this year through our collaborative line up of activities that showcase basic ethics of altruism. We intend to celebrate human love and compassion towards each other,” she added.

Ms. Nena S. Huyong also introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Florence King H. Erlano, who is a city tourism officer in Iloilo City and an alumnus of PSHS-WVC.

“I believe that we could give back to our community through service. You thought that service to the nation is one of the core values of Pisay, but it is what you ought to do even though you’re still students,” Mr. Erlano remarked.

Then, Dr. Carlito A. Cerbo, Jr., the assistant CID chief for the Humanities Week Celebration, announced the schedule of activities. 

After that, the scholars and the other viewers were entertained by an intermission number, a speech duo by Ms. Floralie Inayan and Ms. Ewemiz Insigne.

The school also launched the Tulong Dunong Activity for public school teachers, last November 16, 2020.

Furthermore, the seminar for VAWC deck officers and the outreach activity for the selected barangay frontliners of Iloilo City Proper was conducted on November 20, 2020, at the Barangay Multi-Purpose Hall in Veteran’s Village, Jaro, Iloilo. 

The school has also launched the Maagang Pamaskong Handog sa VAWC Victims, at the Home for Girls in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
